National Council for the Social Studies at LSU

The National Council for the Social Studies is the professional organization for social studies teachers across the United States. Social studies educators teach students the content knowledge, intellectual skills, and civic values necessary for fulfilling the duties of citizenship in a participatory democracy. The mission of National Council for the Social Studies is to provide leadership, service, and support for all social studies educators. NCSS offers student memberships allowing students who wish to become social studies teachers the opportunity to get involved in the education community early on. The purpose of National Council for the Social Studies at LSU or NCSS LSU is to create a community among future secondary teachers of social studies. NCSS LSU is an organization that will: introduce and explore teaching tools, techniques, and technology; develop professional attitudes and skills; and connect students to the professional education community through meetings, discussion, lectures, emails, and newsletters.
