College of Agriculture Assistant Professor Recognized for Academic Achievements with Dissertation Awards

Goyal's dissertation, titled "Price Analysis and Machine Learning Tools to Explain Commodity Market Developments from Government Policies to Supply-and-Demand Fundamental Forecasting," centers on investigating the effects of government policy changes, enhancing the commodity price forecasting methodologies employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and quantifying the agricultural supply response to demand shocks.
Through his research, Goyal aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between government policies and commodity markets, improve forecasting techniques and shed light on how the agricultural sector adapts to changing demand conditions.
These prestigious honors hold profound personal and professional significance for Goyal, symbolizing the culmination of years of unwavering dedication, relentless research efforts and persistent determination. These accolades enhance Goyal's visibility and credibility in his field, while also opening doors for future research collaborations.
Goyal earned a Ph.D. in Applied Economics and an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Georgia. In addition, Goyal holds an MBA in Rural Management from India.
Goyal joined the agriculture economics department in August 2022 as an assistant professor specializing in production economics. His research focuses on production, econometrics, machine learning applications and improving efficiency in agricultural commodity futures and options. He taught AGEC 7123 in spring 2023 and plans to teach it again next spring. Goyal also works on extension issues related to production economics.
Overall, winning the dissertation award is an incredible honor and a significant milestone in my academic journey. It not only validates my research efforts and expertise but also presents new avenues for professional growth, collaboration and contribution to my field of study.
