As an aspiring engineer, you dream of working at NASA. For 2017 LSU graduate Marlou de Guzman, that dream is a reality.
As a Louisiana native, Marlou chose LSU because of its top-notch engineering program and his scholarship package.
After graduating in electrical engineering with three minors under his belt, including robotics engineering, Chinese, and digital
media, Marlou was on the path for success. He quickly progressed through many engineering roles to his current position at NASA where he designs electronics that support the thermal control technology of astronauts’ spacesuits.
If that isn't cool (or warm) enough, one of his favorite memories so far was seeing a replica of the Space Station featuring his work and how it will actually be used in space.
That’s not all! Marlou is currently leading his team through electrical design to create a CryoArm, which is a robotic arm that can operate under very cold temperatures. He hopes to see this creation come to life in the next five years.
“If you want something, whether it be an internship, co-op, job, research opportunity, leadership role, etc., you have to go out and get it yourself. To do that, you have to put yourself in positions to succeed.”
Marlou was busy during his college years. When he wasn’t mentoring for the Society of Peer Mentors, he was playing the guitar or violin for several churches’ music industries or performing presidential duties for Bengal Reauxbotics and so much more.
