Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration highlights and memorializes the work, accomplishments, and legacy of one of the greatest Civil Rights and African American leaders in modern history. The Celebration, organized by the collective efforts of students, faculty and staff led committees, conceptualizes and executes a series of events to engage the LSU and greater Baton Rouge community on actualizing Dr. King's ideals of social justice, non-violence, education, and service.

MLK Legacy Day

Join us for a day of service and community celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy of civic engagement, humanitarianism, and the fight toward equality. The day will begin with service at various community organizations around Baton Rouge. The community celebration will take place in the afternoon, and will consist of a panel dialogue comprised of LSU professors, community leaders, and student voices. The day will conclude with a showing of the film Selma (2014). Selma is a historical drama based on the 1965 Selma Montgomery voting rights marches initiated by James Bevel, led by Dr. King, Hosea Williams, and John Lewis.

Each year, LSU students, staff, and community members make it "a day on, not a day off." We welcome all students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in this day of service and community celebration to uplift Dr. King's legacy!

Participants are required to register in advance for Legacy Day.
