Carpenter Shop

The primary function of the Carpenter Shop is to ensure that our buildings provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students, visitors, faculty & staff.  The majority of the work performed by the Carpenter Shop is limited to the interior of our buildings, but we do maintain various aspects of the exterior of University structures.

The shop is divided into two separate groups who concentrate on different aspects of the carpentry trade. These two groups are our carpentry crew and our maintenance crew. The carpentry side of the shop typically handles our larger carpentry specific projects and the maintenance side handles more of our emergency repairs around campus. This is just a general classification as to what each group does, there is an enormous amount of overlap between the two groups daily.

Typical work performed by the Carpentry Shop includes the Construction/Installation/Repair of flooring, stairs, walls, windows, doors, ceilings, seating, classroom equipment, cabinets, bathroom partitions, fencing & temporary fencing

The Carpentry Shop also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects on campus. All reviews and inspections are based on LSU Design standards.

Paint Shop

The primary functions of the Paint Shop are to maintain the esthetic appeal and extend the useful life of our buildings through paint & plaster maintenance.  The majority of the work performed by the Paint Shop is limited to paint & plaster work, but the shop also maintains all of the masonry and tile work on campus.

The paint shop typically handles all of our painting requests, light sheetrock work, and all of our interior and exterior plaster projects. This is just a general classification as to what each group does, there is an enormous amount of overlap between the two groups daily.

As mentioned above, the Paint Shop also handles all of our masonry and tile work as well. We can handle small masonry repairs on campus as well as ceramic tile & brick paver repairs as needed.

The Paint Shop also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects on campus. All reviews and inspections are based on LSU Design standards.

Sheet Metal & Roofing Shop

As the name entails, the Sheet Metal & Roofing Shop has two primary functions. The first is to ensure that our buildings provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students, visitors, faculty & staff through the inspection, maintenance & repair of the roofs on campus.  The second function is to support our other shops with the Sheet Metal shop.

The Roofing group is responsible for the inspections, cleaning, maintenance & repair of all of the roofs on campus. This scope includes work on clay tile, slate, asphalt shingle, metal & low-slope roofs. The roofing group also plays a lead role in the investigation & remediation of emergency roof/ceiling leaks.

The Sheet metal group plays a supporting role to several of the shops in Facility Services. They are responsible for all metal roofs as well as sheet metal roofing accessories and gutters on campus. They also are responsible for all of the fabrication & installation of HVAC system pans and ductwork.

The Sheet Metal & Roofing Shop also assists in the review and inspection of all new construction and renovation projects on campus. All reviews and inspections are based on LSU Design standards.

Elevator Shop

The primary function of the Elevator Shop is to provide safe vertical transportation access for students, visitors, faculty & staff.  The Elevator Shop provides maintenance, repair, and equipment modernizations on all of our building’s vertical transportation equipment. This equipment also includes escalators, chair lifts & dumbwaiters.

The Elevator Shop consists of 1 manager and 3 full-time licensed mechanics dedicated to maintaining all vertical transportation equipment continue to run efficiently and safety.
