News and Notes
The LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Caucus is dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all LGBTQ+ members of the LSU community.
We are one of several faculty/staff caucuses on campus who support and represent LSU employees. We are proud to work alongside the Black Faculty/Staff Caucus, the Latinx Faculty/Staff Caucus, and the Disability Faculty/Staff Caucus.
Here are some of the latest news and notes about us.
Summer 2020
May 2020 saw the successful election of a new Executive Committee. Welcome to our 2020-2021 leadership team: Bill Mattera (President), S.L. Ziegler (VP), Sam Baldridge (Secretary), Laurie Braden (Treasurer), and Alexandra Chiassen (Grad Student Rep). To learn more about the team, see our About page.
As we wrapped up the spring semester, Caucus members met over zoom in May 2020 for the last meeting of the academic year.
Several Caucus members participated in the
LSU Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion virtual town hall
Voices of the Unheard: Creating Supportive Queer Spaces
on June 29, 2020.
Included in the topics discussed by the panelists: creating safe and affirming living and learning environments for LGBTQ+ students, current and needed resources for LGBTQ+ students on campus, the necessity of intersectional frameworks for identifying the needs of the LGBTQ+ community on campus, and how to expand our connections to off-campus LGBTQ+ community organizations.
