Quantum Gravity & Cosmology
Questions about the origin of our universe, spacetime beyond the big bang, and the fate of black hole singularities are perhaps the most fundamental questions whose answers have remained elusive for many decades. It is expected that a union of quantum and gravity would provide insights on these fundamental problems. However, this task is challenging and difficult not only because of unfinished candidate theories of quantum gravity, but also because of lack of direct experimental signatures. Further, a challenge in this exercise is to how to implement quantum theory in a closed system of our universe.
My research aims to address these issues by: (i) understanding the unification in a systematic way by quantizing non-trivial model spacetimes with increasing complexity, such as isotropic, anisotropic and black hole spacetimes; (ii) exploring the implications of quantum gravity for singularity resolution; (iii) understanding the fate of gravitational collapse in a quantum spacetimes; (iv) exploring phenomenological consequences of new physics being extracted at Planck scale including for the cosmic microwave background; (v) understanding the connection between modified gravity and quantum gravity, and the dynamical equations using methods of inverse problems; and (v) developments on consistent histories formulation of quantum theory to extract consistent probabilities in a quantum spacetimes.
My research involves a combination of analytical and high performance computational methods, and aims to cover answers in all the domains of the above field, including foundational, phenomenological, technical and conceptual questions. (For more information, please visit my personal home page).
