National Survey of Student Engagement

Every three years, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) administers the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) as a crucial tool for measuring student engagement and indirectly assessing student learning. By analyzing survey results from first-year and senior students, OIE disseminates comprehensive reports that provide insights into educational experiences, engagement indicators, and institutional strengths.

What is NSSE?

NSSE captures valuable insights into how LSU students engage academically, socially, and on campus. Unlike standard satisfaction surveys, NSSE highlights what students do, how they spend their time, and how LSU supports their success. This data helps showcase LSU’s strengths, identify growth opportunities, and enhance the Tiger experience.

Why it Matters

NSSE focuses on first-year and senior students at pivotal points in their college journey. Freshmen share insights about their transition to LSU, while seniors reflect on how their education prepared them for success. These perspectives guide decisions, support accreditation, and drive improvements that benefit all Tigers.

Frequently Asked Questions

The NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement) is a national survey that collects feedback from first-year and senior students about their experiences in academics, campus life, and learning. It helps universities improve student engagement and success.

Unlike satisfaction-focused surveys, NSSE emphasizes behaviors and experiences that contribute to learning and development, offering deeper insights into student engagement.

The survey provides actionable data to improve student engagement, support strategic planning, enhance academic programs, and fulfill accreditation requirements.

The survey is open to first-year and senior students because their feedback captures key moments in the undergraduate experience: the beginning and near the end of their college journey.

You’ll receive a personalized email from NSSE.org with a unique survey link sent to your LSU email account. Additionally, eligible students can scan the QR code on official NSSE marketing materials to complete a one-step verification to receive their survey link.

The survey opens on February 17 and closes on May 12.

Yes, your responses are completely anonymous, ensuring you can share your experiences honestly.

Yes! Students who complete the NSSE survey will be entered to win exciting prizes! Freshmen can win one of 10 parking passes, and seniors can win one of 10 cap and gown packages. Additionally, all participants have a chance to win one of 10 VIP passes to the Groovin’ Spring Concert or one of 10 LSU swag bags! Students must complete the survey by April 30 to be entered to win.

Students should look for an email from NSSE.org. If students can’t find the NSSE survey email in their inbox, they should check their spam or junk folder.
