The Foster Village is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that was once a dream that two women, a
foster mom & foster/adoptive mom, had in the back of their minds because they saw
a great need within the community. Their journey took place in Livingston Parish which
at present has the largest number of foster children in the state & that number is
still rising. So they decided to come together to make a way for the community to
fill the gap.
You’ve heard the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child," well, we are calling
on our village to care for the most vulnerable in our community. Teaming up with local
churches, local businesses, as well as, individual volunteers (our village) has made
this possible.
The Foster Village is a donation center for items that will equip local children who
have been separated from their homes in a traumatic event all free of charge. Our
mission is to make sure that every child that has been moved from their home is clothed
with dignity & given something of their own since most have lost everything. We want
to help pave the road to a better life by providing gently used/new items. They also
host events to help families to connect, teach about resources available and raise
awareness - contact us for if you'd like to partner with us to host one!
State’s Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS)
DCFS services include assessing families who apply to adopt and providing services to our
adoptive children and families before, during, and after placement.
Louisiana Fosters is a state-wide campaign focused on Louisiana's children sponsored
by First Lady Donna Edwards to link government, faith, non-profit, business and community
to create united support for our state's foster care system. Foster care is a noble
service, and those called to foster offer love and non-judgmental care to children
who desperately need our support.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has embarked on a
system change for foster care called Quality Parenting Louisiana. Quality Parenting
requires foster parents, birth parents, and the state's child welfare workers to partner
in improving the quality of parenting each child gets – every day, all day – regardless
of who is doing the parenting. For DCFS, that means recruiting, training and supporting
foster parents, and giving the caregiver a voice in the everyday decisions of the
child. While we define the expectations of foster parents, we also define the expectations
of the case worker, to better partner, share information, and build relationships
to enhance the quality of care a child receives.
Foster Care is a protective service provided to children in custody of the Department
of Children and Family Services. It provides substitute, temporary care (e.g., foster
family home, residential care facility, etc.) for a planned period of time when a
child must be separated from his or her own parents or relatives.
